After 15 years of touring and making theatre, the time has come for Wet Picnic to close. The adventure started with 4 friends leaving university and making small pieces of street theatre. It evolved in to an international touring collective working with hundreds of creatives, reaching hundreds of thousands of people across the world.
As members of the core company move in to different stages of their lives and the theatre landscape changes, heightened by the pandemic, Wet Picnic, no longer feels like the right vehicle to present our work.
We have been fortunate enough to headline international festivals, present work in some of the worlds most respected venues and share the stage with world class talent.
Leading this company, I have been surrounded by people who inspire me constantly, their talent has fuelled our success and their friendship has made every day even more enjoyable. As the company has evolved and experimented, we have taken risks and challenged ourselves and our practice. We have felt comfortable to do so, because the group around us has felt like family.
Making theatre is never easy, fundraising, touring and creating work can be scary, but we kept inventing, playing and even when an idea didn’t quite work, it fed us and helped us learn and grow.
I am incredibly proud of the work we have created, and deeply grateful to all of our supporters; the venues, partners, funders and of course our audiences.
Wet Picnic has been a fantastic ride and an even better teacher.
Some of our current shows will continue to be produced through MF Productions. You can visit the website by clicking the link below.
